Comparison of νn and νp charged-current cross sections from high-energy neutrino interactions in deuterium

Description

From an analysis of the reaction ν/sub μ/+d→μ-+X, obtained from an exposure of the Fermilab 15-ft deuterium-filled bubble chamber, the ratios charged-current cross sections for E/sub ν/>10 GeV are determined to be sigma(νn)/sigma(sigmap)=2.03 +- 0.28 for =50 GeV, and sigma(nu-barn)/sigma(nu-barp)=0.51 +- 0.16 for <E/sub nu$/=40 GeV. Bjorken-γx distributions for neutron and proton targets shown that the majority quark in the nucleon has a broader momentum distribution in the infinite momentum frame than does the minority quark
