Description

Metallic - oxygen compounds in pseudo ternary systems La-Cu-M-O with M=Sr, Pb have been prepared by high temperature solid state reaction under different conditions. The susceptibility measurements on Lasub(1.85)Srsub(0.15)CuO4 show the onset of superconductivity at Tsub(C) = 41K and Hα1 of 450 Oe. at 4.1K. Substitution of Sr by Pb destroys this superconductivity. For the Eu doped sample Tsub(C) = 17K, while Lasub(1.6)Ysub(0.25)Srsub(0.15)CuO4 does not exhibit superconductivity down to 4.1K. The tetragonal lattice of La-Sr-Cu-O shrinks in the a axis and expands in the c axis compared to R2CuO4 R=Pr-Gd. The role of this distortion in the metallic conductivity and superconductivity mechanism is discussed. (author)
