The EDF ALARA projects: a global management approach

  • 1. Electricite de France (EDF), 93 - Saint-Denis (France). Dept. de Radioprotection

Description

In 1992, Electricite de France (EDF) decided to improve the degree to which radiological protection is incorporated in overall management of the utility and set itself the objective of ensuring the same level of protection for workers from contractors as for those from EDF. This decision was taken in a context marked by a deterioration in exposure figures for French plants and by the new recommendations issued by the ICRP. This document describes the policy adopted by EDF at both corporate and plant level. The document then describes some quite positive results of EDF's ALARA policy and analyses the changes in global indicators. (author)
