Emission of highly energetic neutrons from laser-imploded D-T pellets and its applicability to pellet diagnosis

  • 1. Department of Nuclear Engineering, Kyushu University, Hakozaki, Fukuoka 812 (Japan)

Description

Because of suprathermal fusion reaction and rapid pellet expansion, the highly energetic neutrons (En>14 MeV) can be emitted from DT pellet. On the basis of coupled transport/hydrodynamic calculation, the suprathermal fusion reaction is examined and the energy spectrum of neutrons bursting from DT pellet is calculated. The pellet ρR diagnosis by the detection of suprathermal fusion neutrons and the method for detecting these neutrons are discussed. copyright 1996 American Institute of Physics
