Oxidation of powders of some oxygen-free refractory compounds

Description

A temeparture of the initiol oxidation stage of powders of titanium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, higher chromium monocarbide, tantalum, tungsten and molybdenum disilicides, zirconium diboride and also titanium carbonitride was determined by using a derivatigraph. The oxidation rate for these powders was studied at 800 deg C in air depending on the oxidation time. It is shown that the lowest oxidation rate is featured by chromium carbide. The ellectric resistance of the powders in the process of their oxidation was measured. The variations in the resistance of the chromium carbide powder was found to be smaller than that of the other materials studied
