Here I summarize various human and scientific aspects of Manuel Aguilar's career on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Manuel Aguilar is one of the pioneers of the development of Experimental High Energy Physics in Spain. His role as leader of one of the largest Spanish groups is recognized,; many of his contributions to the progress of this area of research in Spain are recalled by the author, who shared part of the route with him.
