Adrenal scintigraphy using 131I-Adosterol
- 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka (Japan). Faculty of Medicine
Description
Experimental and clinical investigations were done to evaluate 6β-iodomethyl-19-norcholest -5(10)-en-3β-ol-131I(131I-Adosterol) for adrenal scintigraphy. Marked accumulation in the adrenal glands was demonstrated in 3 dogs by an organ distribution study, 8 days after intravenous administration of 500--800 μCi 131I-Adosterol. Clinical evaluation was done on 11 patients suspected of having adrenal diseases. The scintigraphic examination revealed high uptake in adrenal adenoma and hyperplasia. Adrenal scintigraphy was of value as a simple method to determine the localization of adrenal adenoma and to suggest the presence of adrenal hyperplasia. 131I-Adosterol was a useful radiopharmaceutical for adrenal scintigraphy.
