Spectroscopic features of solvated electrons in nonpolar solutions of ammonia and hydrazine
Description
The features of the optical absorption of solvated electrons e/sub s/ in nonpolar liquid systems obtained by diluting ND3 and a 1:2 N2D4-butanol mixture with alkanes have been studied by pulse radiolysis. It has been established that the position of the bottom of the conduction band of the medium has practically no influence on the spectroscopic characteristics of e/sub s/, which were found to be dependent on the concentration of the solutions. The results have been discussed on the basis of a semiquantitative analysis of the phenomenon of absorption under the conditions of the absence of a polar continuum with the aid of theories on the inhomogeneous mechanism of band broadening and on the changes in the nature of the photoexcited state of e/sub s/ as the concentration is varied
