Analysis Of Radionuclides Of The Air Supply For The Ventilation System At Radiometallurgy Installation (RMI)

  • 1. Nuclear Fuel Element Development Centre, National Atomic Energy Agency, Serpong (Indonesia)

Description

Radionuclides analysis was performed by comparing between the air sample in the inlet of the RMI, and in the service and operating areas. The air sample was sucked using the suction pumps with the capacity of 40 m3/hour and 90 m3/minute. The radionuclides in the from of aerosol captured in filter papers were identified by gamma spectrometer MCA Ortec-HPGe detector. The results show that both samples taken from the air supply of the ventilation system and that from service and operating area have similar radionuclides content such as Pb-212, Pb-214, TI-208, Bi-214, Ac-228 and K-40. Those radionuclides are naturally available in the environment. These results conclude that the air supply of the ventilation system at RMI does not contain artificial radionuclides which are usually coming out from the nuclear facility and there is no radioactive leakage from the ventilation.
