Superconducting properties of V2(Hf, Zr) Laves phase multifilamentary wires

  • 1. National Research Inst. for Metals, Ibaraki

Description

V2Hf-based Laves phase compounds are very attractive superconductors for fusion reactor magnet use due to their promising combination of high upper critical fields and superconductivity insensitivity to both neutron irradiation and mechanical strain. In the present paper, the authors describe the dependence of superconducting properties on the composition of Zr-Hf alloy cores and the formation temperature of V2(Hf, Zr) layer in the multifilamentary wire. The enhanced J /SUB c/ and upper critical field at reduced temperatures in this wire are also reported. Upper critical field of about 28 T is obtained for the wire fabricated for this study
