Experience in radiation protection monitoring gained by the decontamination department of the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe

Description
The decontamination department disposes of the liquefied and solid radioactive wastes of the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KFZK) and the Reprocessing Plant Karlsruhe and makes end products ready for storage, by means of contraction and fixation. The department also takes the radioactive wastes of the depot of the Land Baden-Wuerttemberg for further processing. The facilities of the decontamination department are being made more efficient just now in order to adapt them to increased requirements. The facility's present condition and the activities to increase efficiency during nomal operation make special radiation protection measures necessary. These measures are reported on. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die Abteilung Dekontaminationsbetriebe (ADB) entsorgt das Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KFZK) und die Wiederaufarbeitungsanlage Karlsruhe (WAK) von fluessigem und festem radioaktivem Abfall, wobei durch Einengung und Fixierung ein lagerfaehiges Endprodukt hergestellt wird. Ausserdem uebernimmt sie von der Landessammelstelle Baden-Wuerttemberg radioaktive Abfaelle zur Verarbeitung. Die Anlagen der ADB befinden sich zur Zeit in einer Ertuechtigungsphase, um sie gestiegenen Anforderungen anzupassen. Der augenblickliche Zustand der Anlagen und die Ertuechtigungsarbeiten bei laufendem Betrieb machen besondere Strahlenschutzmassnahmen erforderlich, ueber die im einzelnen berichtet wird.
