First results of thallium 201 myocardium scintigraphy

Myocardium scintigraphs were obtained after injection of 201Tl chloride in 70 patients. Thallium uptake by the heart muscle is bound to be very rapid, and scintigraphs can be recorded 10 minutes after injection. 201Tl is considered to be a useful indicator for myocardium scintigraphy. However the energy of its available emission is relatively low, it is not advisable in women for dosimetric reasons, while detection of the ventricular cavity complicates the interpretation of infarctus images and leads to difficulties in the scintigraphic quantification techniques. With these reserves it is considered more suitable than 131Cs because of its short half-life (73 hours), its immediate uptake by the myocardium muscle, the possibility it offers of using the gamma camera and the formation it supplies concerning the back wall
Abstract (French)
On a realise des scintigraphies myocardiques apres injection de chlorure de 201Tl chez 70 malades. On a constate que la fixation du thallium au niveau du muscle cardiaque est tres rapide et qu'il est possible d'enregistrer des scintigraphies 10 minutes apres l'injection. Le 201Tl est condidere comme un marqueur interessant pour la realisation de scintigraphies du myocarde. Neanmoins, son emission utilisable est relativement peu energetique; il n'est pas recommandable chez la femme pour des raisons de dosimetrie; la mise en evidence de la cavite ventriculaire complique l'interpretation des images d'infarctus et rend les techniques de quantification scintigraphiques delicates. Ces reserves faites, on admet qu'il presente des avantages par rapport au 131Cs, en raison de sa courte demi-vie (73 heures), de sa fixation immediate au niveau du muscle myocardique, de la possibilite d'utilisation de la gamma-camera et des informations qu'il apporte au niveau de la paroi posterieureAdditional details
