Inorganic enamels for corrosion protection of depleted uranium

Description

The low melting glasses was prepared by annealing of the mixture of ZnO and PbO with (NH4)2HPO4 at 800 grad C, followed with grinding the obtained material down to micrometer size. The ZnO-PbO-P2O5 glasses are amorphous, with Tg in range 220-250 grad C. The layers from pure glasses and mixtures with graphite, aerosil and clositite fillers were prepared by casting the water dispresions on metal surface and sintering at 425 grad C. The morphology and structure of layers was characterized before and after γ-irradiation (100 kGy). Finally, the discs from depleted uranium were coated with selected enamel compositions and tested for corrosion stability. (authors)
