Method of determining reducing substances
Creators
Description
The amalgam of a suitable metal previously labelled with radioactive krypton 85 by diffusion or bombardment techniques is used as a tracer in oxidation reagent titration (eg., ascorbic acid is titrated using 0.1M of FeCl3). When the point of equivalence is exceeded, 85Kr is liberated whose activity or the reduction in amalgam radioactivity is measured depending on the amount of the added oxidation titration solution. The point of equivalence is read from the titration curve. The method is safer and more suitable for automation than the work with an amalgam containing a radioactive metal. (M.K.)
