Retrospective epidemiologic study on malignant neoplasms of the blood-forming system

Description

A case/control epidemiological study of radiation factor contribution to radiation-related oncohematologic disorders is performed. Patients with acute myeloleukosis, chronic myeloleukosis, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myelodisplastic syndrome have been investigated. Controls were patients showing no evidence of oncohematologic disorders. The assessment of radiation factor was based on data from inquiries and information available in the National Centre of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection, Sofia (BG). Considered were individual radiation doses received on medical indications, from occupational exposure, as well as from the Chernobyl accident. The contribution of radiation factor was confronted with that of non-radiation agents, domestic and occupational hazards. (author)
