Determination of 226 Ra in cultivation of Pernambuco's phosphatic region

Description

Phosphate deposits occurring in the coastal region of Northeast of Brazil present U3 O8 concentrations ranging from 30 to 450 ppm. Densely populated cities are located in areas containing the phosphate deposits. People living in these region include in their diet locally grain, vegetables and fruits. This work aimed to determine the concentration of 226 Ra in some crops of the region. The results showed 226 Ra concentration ranging from 2.8 mBq/kg to 2,209 mBq/kg of wet material. (author)
