Acetone and acetaldehyde determination in tomato juice by isotopic dilution

Description
Acetone and acetaldehyde content of tomato juice were determined by isotope dilution techniques. The juice is added to 14C labelled compounds, carried along by nitrogen at low pressure. The mixture of 2.4 dinitrophenylhydrazones obtained from volatile compounds is separated by thin layer chromatography on silica gel and then on alumina. A determination of radioactivity and concentration of acetone and acetaldehyde 2,4 dinitrophenylhydrazones obtained after separation and elution allow to calculate the content of these two compounds in the initial product with the same sample. This technique could be used for determination of methanol and ethanol after transformation in 3,5 dinitrobenzoates
Abstract (French)
La teneur en acetone et acetaldehyde de jus de tomate a ete determinee en utilisant une technique de dosage par dilution isotopique. Le jus additionne de produits marques au C14 est soumis a un entrainement a l'azote sous vide partiel. Le melange 2,4 dinitrophenylhydrazones forme a partir des composes volatils entraines, est separe par chromatographie en couche mince sur gel de silice puis sur alumine. Une determination de la radioactivite et de la concentration des 2,4 dinitrophenylhydrazones de l'acetone et de l'acetaldehyde obtenues apres separation et elution permet de calculer la teneur du produit initial en ces deux composes carbonyles a partir d'un meme echantillon. Cette technique peut etre egalement utilisee pour le dosage du methanol et de l'ethanol sous forme de 3,5 dinitrobenzoatesAdditional details
