Alterations of transforming growth factor-α level in patients with liver disease

  • 1. Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, Guangzhou (China)

Description

The author is to observe the changes of serum transforming growth factor-α (TGF-α) by RIA in 212 patients with various liver diseases and 88 healthy subjects. The results showed that serum TGF-α levels of patients with acute hepatitis (AH), chronic hepatitis grave (CHG), hepatocirrhosis (HC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were higher than that of the normal controls (P < 0.001-< 0.01). There was no difference in serum TGF-α levels of the normal controls and patients with chronic hepatitis light (CHI). The levels of serum TGF-α were positively correlated with TBIL and ALT in patients with AH, CHG and CHL. The results suggest that the TGF-α may play an important role in processes of inflammatory injury, repair, fibrosis and the induction of hepatic tumour proliferation in patients with hepatitis
