Extraction of Eu(III) and Th(IV) with TBP in n-dodecane in the presence of nitric acid and the thermodynamic activity of the TBP in the system
Description
A qualitative description of the behavior of distribution coefficients of nitric acid, Th(IV) and Eu(III) separately in the system HNO3-H2O-TBP-n-dodecane and the effect of the temperature in the distribution coefficient of Th(IV) are presented. The distribution coefficient of Eu(III) between aqueous solutions nitric acid and solutions of TBP in n-dodecane are measured. Since the composition of the extracted Eu(III) complex is known, the theoretical course of the dependency of the distribution coefficient on the TBP concentration can be predicted. Deviations of experimental dependencies from theoretical ones give them information about the thermodynamic activity of TBP in the organic phase. A mathematical description for the distribution coefficients of Eu(III) and HNO3 in the mentioned system was sugested. This description will make possible an avaliation of the behavior of the activity coefficients of TBP in the organic phase. (A.R.H.)

Apresentam-se estudos qualitativos do comportamento de distribuicao do Acido Nitrico, Th(IV) e Eu(III) separadamente no sistema HNO3 - H2O - TBP -n-Dodecano, alem do efeito da temperatura no coeficiente de distribuicao do Th(IV). Medem-se os coeficientes de distribuicao de Eu(III) entre solucoes aquosas de HNO3 e TBP em n-Dodecano. Devido ao fato de que a composicao do complexo de Eu(III) extraido na fase organica e bem conhecida, pode-se fazer uma predicao sobre o decurso teorico da dependencia do coeficiente de distribuicao do Eu(III) com a concentracao de TBP. Desvios da dependencia experimental em relacao aos valores teoricos dao informacoes sobre a atividade termodinamica do TBP na fase organica. Uma descricao matematica para o coeficiente de distribuicao do Eu(III) e HNO3 no sistema mencionado foi sugerida. Essa descricao permite uma avaliacao do comportamento do coeficiente de atividade do TBP na fase organica. (Autor)Files
