First evidence of directed flow at CERN-SPS energy from WA98 experiment
Description
The first evidence of directed flow at Pb+Pb 158 A GeV collisions is observed using the plastic ball detector in WA98 experiment. Azimuthal angle of the maximum transverse energy, Φ0 is determined in every event using the observed protons in plastic ball and clear azimuthal asymmetries of fragments are observed with respect to Φ0. The degree of azimuthal asymmetry is found to be largest in mid-central collisions, which is consistent with the picture of the collective flow. (author)
