Theory of the positive column in a transverse magnetic field

  • 1. Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR, Jena. Physikalisch-Technisches Inst.

Description

The influence of a transverse magnetic field on the phenomena in a positive column is theoretically investigated. Using a simplified model the density profile of the charge carriers and their drift velocity to the wall are calculated. It is shown that both the axial electric field intensity and the electron temperature slightly increase when the transverse magnetic field is increased. For such a column the existence condition is derived. (author)
