Spectrophotometry with optical fibers applied to nuclear product processing

Description
Absorption spectrophotometry is widely used in laboratories for composition analysis and quality control of chemical processes. Using optical fibers for transmitting the light between the instrument and the process line allows to improve the safety and productivity of chemical processes, thanks to real time measurements. Such applications have been developed since 1975 in CEA for the monitoring of nuclear products. This has led to the development of fibers, measurement cells, and optical feedthrough sustaining high radiation doses, of fiber/spectrophotometer couplers, and finally of a photodiode array spectrophotometer optimized for being used together with optical fibers

La spectrophotometrie d'absorption fait partie des techniques traditionnellement utilisees en laboratoire pour l'analyse des produits et le controle de qualite des processus chimiques. L'utilisation des fibres optiques pour transmettre la lumiere entre l'instrument et la ligne de process permet d'appliquer cette technique au controle en ligne, et d'ameliorer ainsi la securite et la productivite du process. De telles applications ont vu le jour des 1975 au CEA pour le controle des produits nucleaires hautement radioactifs, de manipulation difficile et dangereuse. Ceci a donne lieu au developpement de fibres, cellules de mesure, et passages etanches resistant aux rayonnements, de coupleurs fibre/spectrophotometre, et finalement d'un spectrophotometre a barrette de photodiodes optimise pour l'utilisation avec fibres optiquesFiles
