Effect of vacuum annealing temperature on working capacity of welded joints of titanium construction

Description

Results of investigating the effect of vacuum annealing at two temperatures (550 and 660 deg C) from the recommended intervals on some service characteristics of welded joints of the OT4 and OT4-1 alloy sheets are presented. It is shown that after vacuum annealing in commercial furnaces (550 deg C, 2 hr) welded joints of the OT4 and OT4-1 sheets have higher service characteristics (low-cycle and high-cycle fatigue, long-term strength) than after vacuum annealing at 660 deg C, 2 hr. The reduction of service characteristics after vacuum annealing (660 deg C, 2 hr) is evidently explained by the appearance of gas saturated layer of increased brittleness which is the zone of surface crack formation
