Decrease of radioresistance and general resistance in altitude-adapted rats
- 1. Kazakhskij Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Onkologii i Radiologii, Alma-Ata (USSR)
Description
Rats adapted during 21 and 120 days, resp., to chronical moderate hypoxy (3340 m above sea level) were lowered from the mountains to the altitude of 847 m above sea level and 1 - 2 hours later 137Cs γ-irradiated with doses of 7.4, 8.4 and 9.7 Gy. There was an essential decrease of radioresistance in adapted animals as compared to non-adapted ones. The factor of dose change at the level of the mean lethal dose was 1.19. Injection of the biologically active polysaccharide prodigiozane in therapeutical doses to adapted rats produced a toxic effect. Decrease of radioresistance is due to hyperoxy. (author)
