Description
The approval in 1990 of the last principal recommendations of the International Commission for Radiation Protection; and with posteriority the whole international scientific debate originated around the elaboration of the International Basic Safety Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for Safety of Radiation Sources, better known already as Safety Series No. 115 or BSS of the IAEA, it has generated the discussion and development of the exemption and clearance concepts. The values derived for exemption or clearance can be different. The application of the clearance concept for many countries is even a complex process, mainly when the resources are not counted for its development. In the work some recommendations are offered for the use of the reference exemption levels with the objective of granting the clearance of radioactive material. (author)
