The project of industrial centre of deep geological storage of radioactive wastes (Cigeo). Report and opinion, 4 October 2013

Description

After a presentation of the methodology and planning of this study launched by the regional economic, social and environmental Council (CESER) about the Cigeo project of creation of a centre of deep geological storage of radioactive wastes, this report first more precisely presents the Cigeo project: waste types, foreseen installations, site choice, organisation of a public debate, and project planning. It discusses the various safety aspects, first the various risks (natural risks, fire risk, explosion risk, parcel fall, gaseous releases, water infiltration, radionuclide dispersion, benefits and drawbacks of this combination of landfilling and warehousing), and then the issue of reversibility. The next part analyses economic impacts (development and training), job creation, possibility of development of an actual territory project. Land planning implications are then addressed: integration of the project into planning documents, project economic support, mobilisation of local actors. A second document proposes a synthetic version of the same issues
