Study of an unidirectional mode converter using the magneto-optic properties of films of ferrimagnetic garnets

Description

A new magneto-optic unidirectional mode converter is described which does not require the use of any birefringent material. The phase matching of TE and TM modes is obtained by depositing on the garnet wave-guide a SiO2 spacer of appropriate thickness, and then a gold layer. The length of the device is made short by means of what we call ''distributed gyrotropy''
