Electron scattering by He+
Creators
Description
Theoretical studies of electron-atom scattering at intermediate energies has improved dramatically over the last 5 years. This energy regime is very difficult to model because there are an infinite number of open channels but the energy is not high enough for standard perturbation theory to yield accurate results. The intermediate energy R-matrix (IERM) theory is one of several accurate theories which has recently been developed and applied successfully to electron scattering by atomic hydrogen. In this work, IERM theory is used to calculate electron-He+ scattering data at intermediate energies. This large scale calculation yields scattering amplitudes for elastic, n=2 and n=3 transitions from which all scattering observables may be derived. Scattering cross sections will be presented at the conference. These data may be used to calculate effective collision strengths and rate coefficients which are particularly important to the modeling of astrophysical and laboratory based plasmas
