Studies on catalytic recombiner for boiling water reactors, (3). Analysis of reaction process calculations

Description
The heat source term of the fundamental equation for the steady-state heat and mass transfer in catalyst bed was expressed as a function of the mass transfer coefficient and the effective chemical reaction rate constant presented in the previous paper. The general equation was approximated by a first-order ordinary differential equation-with axial distance from bed entrance as independent variable, and temperature in catalyst bed as dependent variable-and it was integrated numerically by HITAC 5020 F computer. Experiments were performed with a 10 cm diameter, 8 cm deep bed of palladium catalyst supported on alumina, under the conditions of 130℃ inlet temperature and 5 x 102∼1.5 x 103 kg/mm2‧hr mass velocity of gas, which included steam, air and hydrogen. The results obtained for temperature distribution in the bed and for hydrogen concentration in the effluent agreed closely with the calculations. (author)
