Magnetic properties of the 'brown phase' solid solutions Ba2+2xR4-2xCu2-xO10-2x
- 1. National Inst. of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD (United States)
Description
The 'green' phase, BaR2CuO5 (R = Y and lanthanides) is a well known impurity phase arising in the processing of the high-Tc superconductor materials. For R = La and Nd, a brown solid solution of the titled formula was found instead of a green material. The La analog, unlike the green phase, was ferromagnetic at low temperature. This paper reports the authors' effort to characterize the magnetic properties of the solid solution series of the Nd analogs. For x = 0, no ferromagnetism was obvious at any temperature. Comparison of the La and Nd analogs will further the understanding of the origin of ferromagnetism
