A study on secondary flow of heat generating fluid between horizontal parallel plates

  • 1. Kobe Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

The present paper deals with the behavior of longitudinal vortex rolls due to buoyancy in forced convection field of internal heat generating fluid between two adiabatic horizontal parallel plates. The accumulation of heat in the descending flow field of a vortex roll generates an ascending pair of vortices near the lower plate, and there appears a large fluctuation of temperature or velocity. The new vortices push aside their neighboring vortex rolls while growing into a pair of vortex rolls. The vortex rolls are unstable and their axes are not always parallel to the main flow. (author)
