Description

The graphite core of the Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor (AGR) core has been seismically qualified using a non-linear computer program AGRCOR. This complex three-dimensional code has been verified by comparing predicted responses with exact solution and also with AMP2D code. Using the contact input parameters derived from an extensive test program, the code was validated by comparing predicted responses with measurements of dynamic models of various complexity, one (36 bricks), two (63 bricks) and four (117 bricks) test assemblages. The impact loads generated in the key/keyway and between adjacent bricks due to postulated earthquake input were used to assess the seismic capability of the core by relating these loads to some form of cumulative damage criteria obtained from combined test and analysis.
