Photon absorption and excitation used in nuclear safeguards technique

  • 1. China Institute of Atomic Energy, Beijing (China)

Description

As the photon interaction with matter, it will be absorbed or excite material atomic. The method is applied mostly for determining element concentration in solution in nuclear safeguards. This paper describe Kedge densitometry (KED) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) derived from photon absorption and excitation. It is also including Hybrid KED/XRF technical. In this paper, the theory, applied area and measuring accuracy, also including its advantage and disadvantage are introduced. The HKED/XRF is one of most common non-destructive assay method used in IAEA inspection and nuclear repressing plant. (authors)
