Microstructure, crystal symmetry and possible new compounds in the system Y1Ba2Cu3O9-x
- 1. Lehigh Univ., Bethlehem, PA (USA)
Description
The room temperature crystal symmetry of the superconducting compound Y1Ba2Cu3O9-x was determined by convergent beam electron diffraction to be primitive-orthorhombic with point group mmm. There was evidence that the space group contains a glide plane. Sintered ceramics contained elongated rectangular grains of Y1Ba2Cu3O9-x that were extensively microtwinned and microcracked. Microcracking and twinning could potentially have a strong effect on the critical current density. Two possible new phases, Y1Ba1Cu2O6-x and cubic YCuO3, were identified in addition to several other previously reported compounds in the Y2O3-BaO-CuO system
