Single and multiple collisions between heavy-ions and micro-clusters (super heavy-ions)

  • 1. Tsukuba Univ., Ibaraki (Japan). Inst. of Physics

Description

The analogies of cluster physics to nuclear physics are briefly reviewed both from the point of view of structure and reaction. The present status of C60 single collision data is summarized in a wide energy region. The Plasma Desorption Mass Spectrometry (PDMS) experiments have been performed using several fast heavy ions (∼MeV/u tandem energy) bombarded on the amorphous carbon, PVDF (C2H2F2) and C60-foils. The emitted cluster spectra are quite similar for the mass range [M]+ ≤ 500 u, while those for [M+] ≥ 500 u are only seen in C60-foil. The data yields are interpreted in terms of the cylindrically symmetric activation model considering the combination of single and multiple collisions of ions and clusters.
