Production of carrier-free radioiodine-131 (131I) based on amberlyst resin column

Description

Nowadays, the most used methods to separate 131I are wet distillation and dry distillation. But these method have some disadvantage, such as needed a complex devices and the most likely contamination may occur due to the evaporation process and releasing the 131I. To overcome those disadvantages and to make the process simpler, separation method with ion exchanger resin column (Amberlyst) is developed. Engineering methods agitation against exchange behavior radioiodine-131 and tellurium-131 in the ion exchange resin in solution media acids and bases as well as parameters that affect the separation process as capacities exchange of ions, the distribution coefficient (Kd), the contact time and the mass of resin Amberlyst will be studied. Based on the results, the value of ion exchange capacity of 1.15 meq/gram wet weight of resin, Kd 130Te and 131I in the solvent 2 M NaOH with a contact time of 20 minutes are 47 ml/g and 113 ml/g. 131I separation percent yield obtained was 60.70 ± 0.09 % using 2 grams of Amberlyst resin. Radioisotopes in chemical form Na131I have a radiochemical purity of 95.27 ± 0.06 % and radionuclide purity of 99.5 ± 0.02 %, its in the form of a clear solution, pH 7. (author)
