In the low dose range such radiation risks, cf. the induction of cancer, have to be considered for which the lack of a threshold dose is assumed. The most important epidemiological data for cancer risk after irradiation come from the survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In the dose range below 100 mSv no increase of cancer rate can be observed in the total population. Therefore the risk has to be estimated by extrapolation. Experimental studies of the mechanism of carcinogenesis have to clarify the question of a threshold dose. The variability of individual radiosensitivity is of great significance. After radiation exposures certain patterns of damage have been observed on the DNA. These phenomena may open the possibility to better recognize radiation-induced tumors in the low dose range. Abstract (German)
Im niedrigen Dosisbereich muessen Strahlenrisiken, z.B. die Induktion von Krebs, betrachtet werden, fuer die das Fehlen einer Schwellendosis angenommen wird. Die wichtigsten epidemiologischen Daten fuer das Krebsrisiko nach Bestrahlung kommen von den Ueberlebenden in Hiroshima und Nagasaki. Im Dosisbereich unter 100 mSv kann epidemiologisch keine Erhoehung der Krebsrate in dieser Gesamtpopulation gemessen werden, daher muss das Risiko durch Extrapolation abgeschaetzt werden. Experimentelle Untersuchungen zum Mechanismus der Karzinogenese muessen die Frage nach der Schwellendosis klaeren. Die Variabilitaet der individuellen Strahlenempfindlichkeit ist hier von grosser Bedeutung. Offensichtlich treten nach Bestrahlung gewisse Schadensmuster auf der DNA und bei ihrer Expression auf, die die Moeglichkeit eroeffnen wuerden, strahlenbedingte Tumoren im niedrigen Dosisbereich besser zu erkennen.
