Development of a hydrothermal process for the extraction of alumina from Malaysian low quality kaolin clay

Description

A method of extracting alumina from Malaysian low quality kaolin clay via hydrothermal extraction process was investigated. Optimum reaction temperatures, reaction times and acid concentrations were studied to obtain maximum alumina recovery. Effect of mechanical miling on the particle size of calcined precipitates was also investigated where a mean particle size 4.4 μm was obtained after 30 minutes of milling. The maximum amount of alumina recovered from kaolin at 80 degree C for 360 min using 2M H2SO4 was 44.44%. (Author)
