Peculiarities of admixture washout by cumulo-nimbus clouds

Description

Experimental data of the investigations of the washout of the radioactive admixture 210Po artificially injected into the cumulo-nimbus clouds depending on the raindrop size and the admixture injection height are presented. The results obtained show that the bulk of the admixture is washed out by drops with the radii of 0.8-0.9; 1.20-1.25 and 1.8 mm. Three maxima on the distribution curves of the washed out a admixture, depending on the drop size, occur in cases when the admixture is injected into such a cloud zone where both raindrops and ice crystals are present. It is shown that the distribution of the admixture washed out by drops of different sizes depends on the cloud development degree and the precipitation structure. It is determined that the bulk of the admixture is washed out by the drops of the definite size, which carry the bulk of the rainwater, but which do not necessarily dominate throughout the rain
