SQUID-magnetometer combined with ion implantation

  • 1. Karlsruhe Univ. (T.H.) (Germany, F.R.). Physikalisches Inst.

Description

A magnetometer is presented which allows the in situ determination of the magnetic susceptibility of samples produced by low temperature ion implantation. The operation principle is based on a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) detecting changes of the magnetisation as a function of the temperature of a sample positioned within a static magnetic field. The superconducting transition temperature of InMn samples and the ferromagnetic transition temperature of PdFe samples, both produced by low temperature (T < 10 K) ion implantation into corresponding In or Pd foils, are given as examples for the performance of the instrument.
