Alloy structure and a diagram of phase equilibria of the Hf-Mo-C system

Description
An isothermal section of the Hf-Mo-C system at 1400 deg C is constructed. It is established that hexagonal higher molybdenum carbide ν-MoCsub(1-x) is stabilized by small hafnium additions and exists as a separate phase with homogeneity region in the ternary Hf-Mo-C system from 2 to 3 at.%Hf and from 39 to 40 at.%C. The extension of homogeneity region of the phase on the basis of cubic carbides (Mo,Hf)Csub(1-x) slightly differs from the one at 1700 deg C. The solubility of MoCsub(0.80) in HfC is about 90 mol.%
