Preparation and characterization of barium substituted lead zinc niobate perovskites type relaxor ferroelectric ceramics

  • 1. Advanced Materials Lab., Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata (India)

Description

We have successfully synthesized pyrochlore free (Pb0.90Ba0.10)(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 by precipitation method. The polycrystalline bulk samples of ferroelectric (Pb1-xBax)((Zn1/3Nb2/3)(PBZN) were prepared by solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction of synthesized PBZN for x =0.10, 0.15, 0.25, 0.35 and 0.50 shows a cubic perovskite phase at room temperature with space group of Pm3m. The changes in the structures are observed on increasing Ba contents in PBZN. The dielectric dispersion of the solid solutions has been studied as a function of temperature for the frequency range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz. The temperature variation of the real components (ε') at different frequencies of the dielectric permittivity shows a broad maximum. The diffuse peaks in ε' vs T confirm the relaxor behaviour of PBZN. (author)
