Activation methods in the nuclear power and energy measurements
Description
The present work demonstrates the importance of a simple and accurate method using N-16 and N-17 in the activated coolant water in the reactor for monitoring the overall thermal power. from the analysis and the results given before in this work the following conclusion can be draw:1) quick response to change in power level as a result of the relative short half-life of both N-16, 7.3 sec and N-17, 4.14 sec. 2) the gamma ray energy of N-16 is considerably more energetic than those of other energies produced in the coolant water and can be detected easily without contribution from other gamma-rays. At the same time detection of neutrons released in N-17 method will not suffer from gamma contributions by using a suitable detector
