Description
The theory of inelastic breakup reaction formulated in terms of the post form distorted wave Born approximation has been tested directly against a recent experiment in which inelastic breakup cross section for the 165Ho(3He,d) breakup reaction has been determined via (particle, γ) coincidence measurements. The calculated elastic and inelastic cross sections are in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. The dominant values of the angular momenta transferred to the target during the inelastic breakup process lie between 5 and 14 h units, which indicates that these reactions may be used to selectively populate high spin states in the nuclei
