Sublimation of zirconium dioxide stabilized by yttrium in air atmosphere and combustion product media

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow (Russian Federation). Inst. Vysokikh Temperatur

Description

Results of investigation of stationary (steady) rate of sublimation of yttrium oxide stabilized zirconium oxide base ceramics in oxidizing medium (air and products of propane combustion in oxygen) in the range of temperatures close to the melting point are presented. No influence of open porosity and stabilizer amount on zirconium dioxide sublimation rate was detected. X-ray phase analysis of the samples prior to and after testing in the medium of combustion products and in the air did not reveal any changes of the stabilizer in them. Data on sublimation rate for combustion products and air agree well. It follows from the results obtained that sublimation rate of yttrium stabilized zirconium dioxide in the temperature range of 2500-3000 K is similar for the air and combustion products
