Investigation of some complex compounds of cobalt by emission gamma-resonance spectroscopy

Description
Emission gamma-resonance spectra were measured of some ammonium and cyanide complexes of cobalt, i.e. complexes with monodentate ligands, in an attempt to investigate their molecular structure and relaxation processes. For the case of kalium cyanocobaltate(III) and of ammonium complexes of the general formula [Cosup(III)(NH3)4X2]sup(n+), it was shown that the K capture decay of 57Co causes the original molecular structure to break down; thus no conclusions about the structure could be drawn from the spectra. In the cyanocobaltates(III) of transition metals and in cobalt ferricyanide and cobalt ferrocyanide, however, the molecule is not destroyed by 57Co decay; the evaluation of the spectra yielded some information on the structure and on electron transfer in the molecule.
