Measurement of neutron activation cross sections in the energy range from 8 MeV to 15 MeV

Description

The present work summarizes the results obtained in the measurement programme of neutron activation cross-sections performed at PTB during the past 20 years. The work comprises the measurement of 30 neutron reactions and the data given supersede previously published data. Most of the data are not yet included in the EXFOR library and it is the hope of the authors that the present report may contribute to eliminate this deficiency. The measurements were carried out exclusively in the 8-15 MeV region, a neutron energy region in which measurements are scarce and due to the lack of a simple and perfect neutron source also difficult to perform. The neutrons were generated by means of the D(d,n) reaction, and it will be shown that cross section data of a quality similar to those measured with the T(d,n) neutron source can be obtained if recent DDX data are used in the correction of the disturbing D(d,np) channel.
