Inclusive cross sections for Coulomb dissociation of neutron-rich nuclei channeling through a crystalline target
Description
Simple analytic expressions for inclusive cross sections for interactions between neutron-rich nuclei and target nuclei are obtained in the eikonal approximation on the basis of the coupled-channel optical model. These expressions are used to estimate the ratio of the cross section for the Coulomb dissociation of such nuclei channeling through a crystalline target to the cross section for ordinary Coulomb dissociation. It is shown that, under the conditions of channeling the cross section for incoherent Coulomb excitation, which usually amounts to several barns, decreases by a factor that ranges between 10 and 100. 21 refs
