Lymphatic pathways and rate of absorption of 131I-albumin from pericardium of dogs

Description
Labeled albumin diluted to 4.0 ml with normal saline solution was instilled into the pericardium of 14 dogs. Lymph from the right lymphatic duct (RD) and thoracic duct (TD) was collected at intervals as well as blood samples, and radioactivity measured. Radioactivity was found in both RD and TD lymph, indicating a multiple efferent lymphatic system for drainage of the heart and pericardium. The level of 131I-albumin absorbed from the pericardium reached a peak in 6-22 1/2 hours in RD and TD lymph, and in 2-22 1/2 in blood stream. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Markiertes Albumin, das mit normaler Salzloesung auf 4,0 ml verduennt wurde, wurde ins Perikard von 14 Hunden instilliert. Ausser Blutproben wurde in regelmaessigen Abstaenden auch Lymphe aus dem rechten Lymphgang (RD) und dem Thoraxgang (TD) entnommen und die Radioaktivitaet gemessen. Sowohl in RD- als auch in TD-Lymphe wurde Radioaktivitaet festgestellt, was auf ein mehrfaches efferentes Lymphsystem zur Entleerung von Herz und Perikard hinweist. Der Spiegel fuer das aus dem Perikard absorbierte 131J-Albumin erreichte in RD- und TD-Lymphe nach 6-22 1/2h ein Maximum, im Blut nach 2-22 1/2h. (orig.)Additional details
