Influence on lithium on the structural stability of two austenitic stainless steels of the type 316 and 18 Mn-10 Cr

  • 1. Commission of the European Communities, Joint Res. Centre, Ispra

Description

A more detailed analysis than previously reported is here made of a very low Ni, Mn-Cr austenitic steel with the trade name AMCR. The latter is considered most promising and did not show any grain boundary attack. The surface corrosion layer was investigated and elemental study of the matrix beneath it was made using various electron miscroscopy techniques and quantitative X-ray microanalysis. For comparisons samples of AISI 316 are studied in the same experimental conditions
